3 Reasons Why You Should Take a Pole Dance Train-cation

A train-cation is a trip (usually away from home) where you focus for a specific amount of time on a movement pursuit.

Some train-cations or “retreats” are heavy on the vacation side, held in tropical locations with lots of excursions and hanging out time, while others are heavy on the training side with hours and hours of learning and movement every day.

Here are three reasons to take a train-cation for pole business owners.

1. Tax Benefits

If you own a pole dance related business, the entire trip—including the travel costs, food, the cost of the train-cation, etc—may be legitimate business expense falling under continuing education/professional development or even sales and/or marketing which can lower your tax burden.

While this doesn’t mean you’re traveling “for free” it can make the cost of traveling more accessible as a business expense.

Make sure to confirm this with your tax accountant for your jurisdiction.

Don’t have one? Check out IPIA partner, TitsNTaxes.

2. Networking

People from all over the world come to pole retreats and train-cations!

Going on a retreat allows you to meet people who aren’t in your geographic area, which helps you expand your network.

If you’re a coach or teacher, maybe you find a new virtual training buddy; if you’re a studio owner maybe you find some awesome people to bring in for workshops at your studio. There is so much to learn at a retreat from everyone there, not just the host.

Many of the participants of retreats have day jobs as well who could help you in your non-pole life too.

You never know who you might meet!

Maybe it’s a hairdresser who gives you tips on how to tame your unruly locks, a professional makeup artist who gives you a tip on finding the right foundation or how to give yourself makeup abs for your next routine, a social media marketer who can bring your business to the next level—the networking opportunities are endless.

3. Lots of New Stuff

Train-cations provide opportunities to learn new skills, new content, and other new information to help you on your movement journey. It can be hard for pole business owners to take time to develop their own practice and a train-cation can be a great way to focus without the stresses of regular life.

New music! Maybe you’ll discover a new favorite band or be able to bond with another retreater over music you already love from the train-cation playlist.

You may even find a new favorite pair of pole shoes, apparel, grip, or other accessories simply from being around a bunch of new people.

If you’re feeling burned out on your pole business, going on a retreat can be a welcome reprieve and bring you back to the roots and what you love. It’s a great time to learn new things, to network with like-minded polers, and you can likely even write it off on your taxes!
