Creating a press kit for your pole business
A press kit or media kit has all the information reporters or other media folks need to know about your business and how to contact you.
Why do you need a press kit?
If getting publicity for your business is a goal, make it easy for reporters to accurately talk about your business. Pole businesses and pole dancers in general may face inaccurate assumptions when dealing with the media. Make it easy and clear what you and your business do!
Not everyone actively wants general media contacts for their business like their local newspaper. You still may want a press kit for working with social media influencers or bloggers or other targeted media groups within the pole industry.
What do you include in your press kit?
Include all the information about your brand that you think people need to know.
Things like:
- News or special events like a product launch
- Historic data like when your company was founded
- Other relevant facts like your process, culture, or mission
- Logos in different formats
- Contact information including email, phone, website URL and social media links as relevant
- Awards and recognition
- Mentions or quotes in other press
- Any appropriate images like your new clothing line or if you’re a performer, photos of you performing.
The details of your press kit will change depending on the nature of your business.
Do make sure when providing logos that you use high-quality versions with a transparent background so it can be used in multiple ways. You won’t have as much control over how your logo is used like in a brand standard, so try to make this as easy as possible.
Similarly, provide images that are high resolution and represent your brand, products, and/or services accurate.
Where should you put your press kit?
Your press kit could be something you send out to reporters or something they self-serve. Consider having an area on your website that either has a separate web page or link to a Google Drive or other file share service where they can download relevant information. You’ll likely not want to email someone tons of high-resolution images so a link would be a better option.
If you use Shopify for your business, they have an app that can do this for you! Otherwise if you use another web builder like Wix, Square, or WordPress, you can create one yourself.
When creating your press kit, be clear and make your content easy to understand and to use so that your pole business shines!
