How to Attract Your Perfect Clients and Define Your Brand
These recommendations are from Teresa Saffold’s webinar ”Attract the Perfect Clients by Defining Your Brand.” Members can view the entire webinar at this link.
Teresa is a veteran of the pole dance world with over 10 year’s experience. She went from student to coach to studio owner. She has opened several studios around the Dallas/Fort Worth area of Texas, is the CEO and Co-owner of Pole Dance Parties UNLIMITED, and founder of the “Pole’Preneur Program” which is a platform where pole dance enthusiasts who are interested in starting their own pole brand can get their start.
Know Thyself
Before you can attract the perfect client, you must have absolute clarity about your goals.
Ask yourself:
- Who you are as a business owner
- What you intend to offer
- Where you’re trying to go
Without knowing who you are and where you fit in the pole community, you won’t be able to find your perfect client.
As Teresa explains, “If you get in the car right now and you have no idea where you’re going, then you’re just going to run out of gas.” You need to go into your business with a plan.
Embrace Your Niche
Embrace a specific niche without guilt.
Whether you specialize in heel work, sexy pole, or beginner-friendly classes, being clear about your specialty helps you stand out.
If you try to cater to the masses, you aren’t being true to yourself and your mission will become muddy. Don’t worry about being “pigeonholed.” It can be scary to focus on one thing, but it’s what you need to do to set the foundation.
Ask the Right Questions
Don’t be afraid to interview your best clients to understand how to attract even more of them.
Ask questions like:
- “What attracted you to my studio?”
- “What made you stay?”
- “What matters most to you?”
- “What would you pay top dollar for that I provide?”
Their answers provide invaluable insights that can shape your marketing and help you find more clients just like them. This can be done on social media to drive engagement, or it can be done as anonymous feedback forms sent out at the end of a workshop or session series.
Word of Mouth
As the saying goes, “birds of a feather flock together.” Your perfect clients likely have friends and family with similar interests and values. Implementing a referral program can help you tap into these networks and attract more of your ideal customers.
One promotion could be “for current students, bring a friend to intro and join them for free!” Often, when someone is talking a friend into taking something, the friend doesn’t want to go alone.
Be Consistent
When it comes to branding, there are several key principles:
- Be confident in your strengths: Know what you do exceptionally well and communicate it confidently.
- Be honest about your weaker areas: Don’t try to be everything to everyone.
- Stand out with originality: Use your own voice rather than copying competitors.
- Consistently re-evaluate: Measure your progress, consult with clients, and adapt as needed.
Using examples like Chipotle and Chick-fil-A, Teresa illustrated how successful brands maintain consistency while excelling in their specific niches. “When you see Chick-fil-A, you know exactly what they’re known for,” she explained.
Always Be a Student
Once you become a studio owner or coach, you may feel like you don’t have time to learn. You are always taking in information, though the focus will shift to taking in information about your students/clients. You will always learn more about them, what cues work best, where they are faltering in a certain move, what instructors really click with your students.
By staying open to learning and evolving, you can continue to refine your understanding of your perfect clients and how to serve them best.
Final Thoughts
The journey to finding your perfect clients begins with self-knowledge, requires courage to build and embrace your niche, and demands consistency in your branding and messaging.
By following these principles, you can build a business that not only attracts the perfect clients but also allows you to operate fully within your passion—making your work feel more fulfilling.
Remember Teresa’s formula for success: “Business is a formula. Business is paying attention to what you’re doing and tracking what succeeded and what didn’t.”
